CHALLENGE CUP 2009
THE LOCAL BAR WON THE CHALLENGE CUP FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 3 YEARS BUT FOR ME THE REAL WINNERS ON THE DAY WAS TIPPERARY DARTS.
15 teams took part in the cup on Sunday and the Tipp Youths also took part and they set the competition alight with their displays of great darts and and their lack of fear when they were on the ropes. They put the Golden Inn out in round 1 and followed that by putting out the Royal Hotel in round 2.They put in the match of the day in the semis by beating former County champs Crokes B.They played the Local in the final and went 3 1 up but the Locals back line which had been in great form all day held on to take the cup on a 4 3 scoreline.
Sunday was all about the old guard and the new guard and it was a cracker, alot of older players who watched the Youths in action on Sunday saw the future of Tipperary darts live and in full colour.A new era was born on Sunday and it will be up to the old Guard to nuture and help the new Guard and give them the support they need to be the future for Tipperary darts.
Also I would like to thank al those who made the journey to Emly to take part,I would like to thank the Principal Officer on the day Michael Kearney, the members of the Emly darts team who set up the event, the Youth Officers, family and supporters and most of all the Youths who renewed every ones belief in Tipperary darts.
