CLONMELS JIMMY HANIGAN DARTS CHAMPION OF TIPPERARY
The Local Bar and Tipperary's Jimmy Hanigan added to his Tipperary Cup succes when being crowned Tipperary County Darts Master 2007 on sunday evening in the Privates Mess,Kickham Barracks.A 3-1 victory over County team mate Donie Ryan in the final of crowns a magnificent year for the Clonmel man who has starred for club and county all year.
Sixteen of the best tournament players in the County qualified for the Masters but only two were to remain by seven o'clock.Tipps number one Donie Ryan swept all before him in his first three matches,not dropping a leg on his way to the final.Cashels Tom McRory was first to be put to the sword before Clonmels Ger Fitzgerald and Emly's Richie Phibbs were dispatch with equal ruthlesness.Hanigan survived a sudden death match with Pat Reynolds in the first round,defeated the excellent John Butler of Carrick in the quater-final and really started to find form when defeating Goldens Noel Landy 3-0 in his semi-final.
Hanigan was merciless in the final racing to a two leg lead before Ryan found his game in leg three,but it was to no avail as Jimmy powered his way to victory in leg four in a fascinating encounter to draw a close to the tournament season.
